About
Welcome to the culinary haven of Imakatsu Tanjong Pagar, located at 7 Wallich St, #01 - 06, Singapore 078884. This establishment exemplifies the art of Japanese comfort food, particularly renowned for its exquisite katsu offerings. As a food reviewer for Foodjoyy, I am excited to share an introduction to this gem that combines authenticity with a touch of contemporary flair.
At Imakatsu, the menu is undeniably a treat for pork lovers. You can delight in their signature Pork Katsu dishes, like the Miso Pork Loin Set for SGD 23.80 or the decadent Mentaiko Premium Pork Loin Set priced at SGD 27.80. Each meal is thoughtfully accompanied by white rice, miso soup, and pickles, creating a full-bodied dining experience.
Highlighting their offerings is the Pork Katsu Curry Set—a harmonious blend of crispy pork and rich curry, another testament to the skillful execution found throughout the menu. The delightful Chicken Katsu Don, featuring perfectly breaded chicken served over rice with egg and savory sauce at SGD 19.80, further enhances the diverse selections available.
But don't just take my word for it; customer reviews reflect a consistent appreciation for Imakatsu's quality. Patrons praise the generous portions, especially the fresh sliced cabbage served with a sesame sauce that can be refilled as desired. While some have noted that certain cuts of pork may vary in tenderness, the overall sentiment remains positive. The service is described as fast and efficient, elevating the dining experience even further.
For those lunch-goers seeking value, a special SGD 30 lunch menu adds a variety of main dishes alongside free-flow cabbage—an offer that some have found to be a pleasant surprise. It’s no wonder that this spot can get crowded during peak hours!
As you navigate through your meal, the ambiance invites a relaxed yet social atmosphere, making it a fitting choice for both casual dining and special occasions. The combination of superb food and attentive staff contributes to a pleasant experience time and again.
In summation, Imakatsu Tanjong Pagar is more than just a dining destination; it's a celebration of traditional Japanese flavors melded into a contemporary dining scene. Whether it’s indulging in katsu or enjoying the thoughtfully crafted rice bowls, one cannot help but appreciate the dedication to quality and taste. “ Pretty nice tonkatsu spot but I wouldn't say it's mind blowing and the best. The pork loin was honestly a bit tough for my liking but it's probably also a function of the cut and meet quality. For the prices they're charging I don't expect melt in your mouth meats. Overall, I still like the place and I think the serving is pretty generous! Free flow cabbage if you aren't full. ”
“ Very nice Japanese place with a solid lunch menu. I’ve been there a few times but this time was by far the best experience. They have added a lunch menu for 30$ where you get free flow of fresh cabbage, a wide choice of main dishes as well as a soft drinks. In This menu you can get the pork fillet which is excellent with very little fat - however I would avoid other cuts as they can get fatty and quite hard to chew. So pleasantly surprised for this particular choice. Gyoza on the other hand are dry and full of fat. Service is good, fast and efficient. It’s crowded weekdays for lunch but it’s to be expected. So good experience overall this time ”
“ Place was not too crowded considering that it was a weekend dining timing. While the establishment looked inviting from the outside, I felt a little suffocated from the tight space between the chairs and tables, and the counter area could do with some tidying up. Food wise, I enjoyed the fresh sliced cabbage with the sesame sauce. It is great that one could ask for top up for the vegetable. The fried oysters were plump and I like how they were beautifully encased within a golden brown crust from the bread crumbs. For the premium pork katsu, it was not as tender as I had wanted it to be. The fats and meat ratio could be better to make it more palatable. Curry sauce was on the runny side, not allowing it to coat the rice grains, and the bread crumbs became soggy easily when drenched with the sauce. Service was good. I like how friendly the staff was, and they certainly make the dining experience an enjoyable one. ”
“ 1 pax set ($30++): Hokkaido pork tamagotoji - Fine but not such large pieces of pork and a little too watery. Rice set - Fine. Aji (mackerel) fry 2 pieces - Good. Large pieces. Ayataka green tea - Fine. From earlier visits: Premium pork katsu - Thick and juicy. Aji fry - Good. Oyster fry - Good. Premium Hokkaido pork katsu - Tender pork, good panko, fried just right. Aji fry - Good. Enjoyed the premium pork katsu. The mentailko side, a very small portion, was ok. ”
“ There is an additional 30% off for katsu sets now, which brings the prices down to $13-15 for one set, which made it very value for money. We tried both the original and the miso set — personally prefer the plain with lemon the best, miso set was slightly on the saltier side but the sauce made the meat less dry. Shredded cabbage serving is very generous too. Would come again ”
“ The dishes are not bad, quite enjoyed the curry Katsu. It’s somewhat pricey for what it is though. ”
“ Warm & friendly service. The main dishes & side dishes were good & tasty. Non-oil dripping kind of katsu. Currently run on promotion $30.00 a set which is decent. They may also consider playing some Japanese songs example by Emi Fujita instead of some western country songs. That way people can relate with their cuisine. ”
